Stick with the big cruise companies such as Princess, Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Holland America, etc. Stay away from any company that has just one ship. Also, make sure who does the booking is a legit company such as AAA, vacations to go, or any company that you know well. Finally for all the info you may need for picking a cruise, go to cruise critic and read what many others say about the cruise company you pick.
All cruise lines are good, but individual ships do have bad days.
If your not as young as you once were. Double check if the ship docks or does it run tenders back and forth to the pier, at it’s ports of call
Who does the cruise cater to. some are very young crowds and some are for older crowds.etc.
Where are the ships staff from. I’ve been on over a dozen cruises. If the staff, waiters , bus boys etc. are from North America stay home. If they are from 3rd world countries you will get good service. Treat the staff as equals, they are good people trying to support a family, just like you.
If the ship does not encourage tipping your service will be sub standard. there’s a million things to learn, learning them is part of the fun.
Have a good time, we do.
I’ve been on six Carnival cruises, and never been disappointed. Be aware that there are some charges put onto your bill not included in the info – such as tipping the cabin stewards, alcohol is separate and not included (food is), and if you are planning an excursion, it’s safer to book one through the cruise, not by some stranger standing at the dock at the port of call. It’s more expensive – but supposedly a lot safer.
When you book a cruise make sure you have proper documents like your passport and any visas you may require depending on your citizenship. Also be aware of the Terms and Condition of the Cruise. Most Cruises are pretty good. However, it depends on the Ship and the Destination (Royal Caribbean, Princess and even Carnival are good Cruises) and if prices is a concern, Carnival is always less expensive than the rest.
